When was Dom Matteo Scored a Great Goal first sung?
8 November 2000, San Siro, AC Milan 1-1 Leeds in the Champions League group stage. Matteo scored on the stroke of half-time, heading in a Lee Bowyer corner; Shevchenko had hit the post with a penalty earlier. The result took Leeds through to the second group stage at Barcelona's expense. The Leeds players stayed on the pitch for around an hour after the final whistle, drinking beers and singing with the away end. The chant has been a permanent Elland Road fixture since.
