What's the story behind Goodnight Irene?

The tradition traces back to a November 1950 home match against Plymouth Argyle. Plymouth's fans sang it first, introduced by their accordionist while they were winning, Rovers fans adopted it after a second-half comeback and re-appropriated it as their own. It caught on immediately and has been the club's defining anthem ever since.
