The song dates from 1919 and has been sung in the Groningen region for generations, including at FC Groningen home matches at the Euroborg.

Grunn's Laid is the only provincial anthem in the Netherlands officially written in dialect. In 2009, the province of Groningen set a world record when more than 7,000 people sang it simultaneously.
