Formally adopted on 11 May 1813 as the 'Marcha Patriótica', it became Argentina's musical symbol of independence and has accompanied every Selección match since.

The anthem was officially adopted on 11 May 1813, just 3 years after the May Revolution. The version sung today is a shortened form approved in 1900, the first and last verses plus the chorus of the 1813 original.
