In 1998, Vasco turned 100 and the samba school Unidos da Tijuca honoured the Giant of the Hill with this samba-enredo, a song the fans immortalised on the terraces. 'A rede vai balançar' (the net is going to shake) became a battle cry. Full lyrics at FanChants.

The samba was written for the 1998 Rio Carnival to mark Vasco's centenary. Founded on 21 August 1898, the club reached its 100th year as Copa Libertadores champions, winning the title in that same year.
