When was Deutschlandlied first sung?
The third stanza of Das Deutschlandlied was confirmed as the official national anthem of West Germany in 1952, and has been sung before every international ever since.
What's the story behind Deutschlandlied?
The anthem has three stanzas, but since 1952 only the third is officially used, the opening line "Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit" has become one of the most recognised phrases in world football.
